01

Who we are

B Shaw LTD, trading as Chronicle Law, is the controller responsible for the personal information described in this notice.

Registered office: 2 Merchant Corner, Markeaton Street, Derby, DE22 3AP. Company number: 12912346. Privacy enquiries may be sent to brett@chroniclelaw.co.uk.

02

Information we collect

Depending on how you use Chronicle Law, we may collect:

  • your name, work email address, professional role, organisation and account type;
  • professional interests, newsletter choices and training preferences;
  • saved content, followed contributors or organisations, learning activity and certificates;
  • organisation membership, invitations, licence assignments and administrator activity;
  • order, billing and payment-status information (card details are handled by the hosted payment provider and are not stored by Chronicle Law);
  • benefit enquiries, contributor or supplier applications and correspondence; and
  • essential technical and security information, including session identifiers and service logs.
03

How and why we use it

We use personal information to create and secure accounts; personalise the member experience; provide training and certificates; administer purchases and organisation licences; respond to enquiries; manage requested partner introductions; send communications selected by the member; prevent misuse; and meet legal, tax and accounting duties.

Our lawful bases are generally performance of a contract, compliance with legal obligations, our legitimate interests in operating and improving Chronicle Law, and consent where a person makes an optional marketing choice. Consent can be withdrawn at any time.

Your right to object: you may object to processing based on legitimate interests, and you may object to direct marketing at any time.

04

Who receives information

We use service providers for website hosting and data storage, transactional email and, when enabled, hosted payment processing. They may process information only to provide those services under appropriate contractual safeguards.

We do not give partners unrestricted access to member information. A partner receives details only where a member has clearly requested an introduction or agreed to be contacted. We may also disclose information where legally required or in connection with a properly managed sale or restructuring of the business.

05

International transfers

Some technology providers may process information outside the United Kingdom. Where that occurs, we use an approved transfer mechanism or another lawful safeguard, such as UK adequacy regulations or the UK International Data Transfer Agreement/addendum, as applicable.

06

How long we keep information

Account information is kept while the account is active and is normally reviewed for deletion after closure, subject to legal and operational requirements. Order, invoice and accounting records may be retained for up to six years. Unsuccessful enquiries and applications are normally reviewed after 24 months. Marketing preferences are retained until withdrawal, together with a minimal suppression record where needed to respect that choice.

Authentication sessions expire after approximately 12 hours or 30 days where “remember me” is selected. Specific records may be kept longer where reasonably necessary to establish, exercise or defend legal claims, investigate security concerns or comply with law.

07

Your rights

Subject to applicable law, you may ask for access to your information, correction, deletion, restriction, portability or an objection to certain uses. Where processing relies on consent, you may withdraw it without affecting earlier lawful processing.

Contact us to exercise a right. You may also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.

08

Security and changes

We use proportionate organisational and technical safeguards, including protected account sessions, restricted access and hosted payment pages. No internet service can promise absolute security.

We may update this notice as Chronicle Law develops. Material changes will be highlighted where appropriate, and the date above will be revised.
